India of Kashmiris, Kashmir of Indians: Amit Shah on the remarks made in Parliament by the RJD MP

Expressing strong dissent against the comments made by Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Manoj Kumar Jha in Parliament regarding Jammu and Kashmir, Union Home Minister Amit Shah vehemently objected on Monday. Shah emphasized that Kashmir is an integral part of India, belonging to all Indians, and underscored that India, in turn, belongs to the Kashmiris.

The objection from Amit Shah was prompted by Manoj Jha's statement, where he remarked, "There is no one in this House today who is for Kashmir." In response, Shah contested the opposition leader's viewpoint, asserting, "He can speak for himself, but why is he speaking for us? We are always for Kashmir. The region is for everyone from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, and from Dwarka to the North-East. Likewise, the country is of every Kashmiri."

Subsequently, Amit Shah introduced the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2023, and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2023, in the Rajya Sabha for deliberation and approval. These bills had previously been passed by the Lok Sabha in the preceding week.

It is noteworthy that on the same day, the Supreme Court upheld the government's decision to abrogate Article 370, which granted special status to the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir. Amit Shah lauded the Supreme Court's historic verdict, characterizing it as a significant endorsement of the constitutional validity of the decision to abrogate Article 370.
