On Sunday evening, Chhattisgarh Governor Biswabhusan Harichandan extended congratulations to BJP legislative party leader Vishnu Deo Sai and officially invited him to form the government in the state. During this meeting, Governor Harichandan presented a letter to Sai, formally acknowledging his appointment as the Chief Minister by Article 164 of the Constitution. Additionally, Sai was invited to assemble his cabinet.
The swearing-in ceremony for the new chief minister is anticipated to occur on either December 12 or 13, contingent on the availability of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as disclosed by a senior BJP leader. To formalize Sai's appointment, BJP's state president Arun Sao submitted a letter to the Governor, affirming that Deo Sai had been elected as the leader of the BJP's legislative party by the newly-elected MLAs. This submission was accompanied by a claim to form the government.
In attendance at the Raj Bhavan for this significant event were Union Ministers Arjun Munda, Sarbananda Sonowal, and Mansukh Mandaviya, along with BJP's Chhattisgarh in-charge Om Mathur, newly-elected BJP MLAs, and others, as outlined in the official release.
Responding to media inquiries following the visit to Raj Bhavan, Arun Sao indicated that the swearing-in ceremony for Sai might be scheduled for December 12 or 13, contingent on the Prime Minister's availability. When asked about the potential appointment of a deputy chief minister in the state, Sao clarified that such decisions would be determined by the new Chief Minister and the central leadership of the party.
Vishnu Deo Sai, a prominent tribal leader at 59, was earlier chosen as the leader of the BJP's legislative party in Chhattisgarh during a meeting involving 54 newly elected party MLAs. In the recent elections, the BJP secured victory in 54 out of the total 90 assembly seats, while the Congress' tally was reduced to 35, and the Gondwana Gantantra Party won one seat.
