According to sources disclosed to India Today on Wednesday, Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra are expected to be present at the swearing-in ceremony of Revanth Reddy as the Chief Minister of Telangana on Thursday, December 7. The announcement of Revanth Reddy as the new Congress Legislature Party chief in Telangana was made by Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal in a media briefing on Tuesday.
Preceding his official oath-taking event, Revanth Reddy engaged in meetings with key figures in the Congress leadership. On Wednesday, he met Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge in Delhi and subsequently held discussions with former party chief Sonia Gandhi and party MP Rahul Gandhi. Additionally, he had a meeting with Priyanka Gandhi Vadra at Sonia Gandhi's residence.
The Congress secured victory in 64 out of the 119 seats in the state Assembly, paving the way for the formation of the government in Telangana. In contrast, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi led by K Chandrashekhar Rao faced a significant setback, managing to win only 39 seats. Even before the official conclusion of the vote-counting process on December 3, KCR promptly submitted his resignation to the governor.
Following this development, a delegation of Congress leaders promptly approached Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan to assert their claim for the formation of the government in the state.
Assuming the role of Telangana Chief Minister, Revanth Reddy is confronted with the formidable task of fulfilling the "six guarantees" outlined by the Congress party during its electoral campaign. These commitments encompass various pledges such as free travel for women on RTC buses, an annual payment of Rs 15,000 to farmers and tenant farmers, the provision of 200 units of free electricity for all households, and the allocation of 250 square yards of plots to Telangana movement fighters, among other assurances.
