In an unfortunate incident reported on Thursday, a driver lost their life, and significant damage was inflicted upon Ukrainian grain infrastructure due to a Russian drone attack near the Danube River, as stated by the governor of the Odesa region.
Providing details, the governor revealed that the drone attack persisted for more than two hours overnight. Despite efforts to intercept, some drones successfully evaded defenses, causing harm to a storage facility, an elevator, and several trucks.
The importance of Ukraine's Danube ports in facilitating the country's substantial grain exports has grown significantly, especially considering the blockade imposed by Russia on the Black Sea since its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
While Moscow had previously targeted the Danube port infrastructure with drone attacks in August and September, the latest assault occurred after a period of relative calm. Notably, this recent strike marks the first attack on Danube facilities since November 21.
Ukraine's air force reported the launch of a total of 18 Shahed drones in the southern Odesa region and the Khmelnytskyi region in western Ukraine. Impressively, fifteen of these drones were successfully intercepted and shot down by air defense rocket systems and mobile fire groups, according to the Air Force.
