Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, on Saturday, personally met with a 30-year-old Muslim woman, Samina B, who had reportedly faced physical assault from her brother-in-law for exercising her democratic right to vote for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the recent state Assembly elections. Chouhan assured her of financial assistance and "complete security," emphasizing his commitment to supporting her. He took to X (formerly Twitter) to share images of their meeting, along with a message conveying his solidarity: "Don't worry about anything my sister, your brother is always with you." Additionally, Chouhan informed that he had instructed officials to take necessary actions in response to the incident.
During the meeting at the Chief Minister's residence, Chouhan engaged with Samina and her children, expressing concern for her well-being and reiterating the government's commitment to providing security. Samina, after the encounter, conveyed that Chouhan assured her of ongoing support, stating, "Aapka bacche ka mama hu mai (I am your children's uncle)."
According to Samina's filed complaint, the incident occurred on December 4 while she was celebrating the BJP's triumph in Madhya Pradesh. Allegedly, her brother-in-law, Javed Khan, objected to her festivities and began verbally abusing her. When Samina protested against his language, Javed reportedly resorted to physical violence, assaulting her with a stick and causing injuries to her hands and other parts of her body.
In the wake of this disturbing episode, Chouhan, taking swift action, intervened to assure the victim of her safety and provide the necessary support. The incident occurred shortly after the declaration of results for the Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections on December 3, where the BJP secured a significant victory, clinching 163 out of the 230 seats in the state.
