Ten or more workers are trapped in a Karnataka warehouse beneath a pile of bulky packages

In the Vijaypura industrial area of Karnataka, a distressing incident has occurred where more than 10 workers find themselves trapped beneath numerous sacks within a warehouse. The unfortunate event unfolded as a storage unit collapsed, causing sacks filled with grains to overturn on Monday. According to the news agency PTI, the ensuing rescue operation involved the use of bulldozers, with videos depicting the machinery employed to extract the trapped workers. Local authorities, including the police, were present at the warehouse to oversee the rescue efforts, ensuring a coordinated response as bulldozers worked to clear the grains that had entrapped the workers.

This incident follows closely on the heels of a recent rescue operation in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi, where 41 workers were successfully extricated after being trapped in a collapsed tunnel for a harrowing 17 days. The prolonged rescue operation, spanning over two weeks, encountered challenges due to the difficult terrain and complications faced by the drilling machine used in the tunnel. In the final phase of the rescue, rat-hole miners were deployed to effectively reach and free the workers trapped inside the under-construction Silkyara-Barkot tunnel, which had collapsed on November 12. The successful rescue of all 41 workers was ultimately achieved on November 28.
