US funding to aid Ukraine in waging war against Russia is almost depleted: White House

In a communication addressed to Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson and other congressional leaders, White House budget director Shalanda Young emphasized the urgency of the situation, warning that the United States is facing imminent constraints in both time and financial resources to support Ukraine in its conflict with Russia. The plea comes as a follow-up to the Biden administration's request to Congress in October, seeking an allocation of nearly $106 billion to realize expansive initiatives encompassing Ukraine, and Israel, and bolstering US border security.

Young underscored the critical importance of timely congressional action, especially given the looming deadline by the end of the year when available resources for procuring weapons and equipment for Ukraine, as well as providing military stock from the US, will be deleted. The letter, released by the White House, emphasized that withholding funding and the supply of weapons to Ukraine would significantly enhance the likelihood of Russian victories in the ongoing conflict.

"I want to be clear: without congressional action, by the end of the year we will run out of resources to procure more weapons and equipment for Ukraine and to provide equipment from US military stocks," she wrote. "There is no magical pot of funding available to meet this moment. We are out of money — and nearly out of time." The urgency of this matter is amplified by the delicate political landscape, with Republicans holding a slim majority in the House of Representatives, where funding for Ukraine has become a contentious issue for some right-leaning lawmakers.
