23, Rajasthani guy passes away following improper blood transfusion in hospital

A tragic incident unfolded in Jaipur, Rajasthan, where a 23-year-old named Sachin Sharma, hailing from Bandikui town, lost his life purportedly due to a grievous medical error at the state-administered Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital. Sachin had been admitted to the hospital's Trauma Centre following a severe road accident resulting in significant injuries.

During his treatment, an unfortunate mishap occurred when a ward attendant stationed at the Trauma Centre allegedly administered O-positive blood to Sachin instead of the requisite AB-positive blood type. This erroneous transfusion reportedly led to complications in both of Sachin's kidneys, ultimately resulting in his untimely demise, amidst allegations of negligence.

The revelation of this grave error came to light during Sachin's treatment at the hospital, as disclosed by SMS Hospital Superintendent Achal Sharma to news agency PTI. In response to the incident, authorities have promptly convened a specialized committee tasked with conducting a thorough investigation into the matter, with assurances of appropriate actions to be taken upon receipt of the committee's findings.

As of the time of reporting, neither the victim's family nor the hospital authorities had filed any formal complaints with the police regarding the incident.

This tragic occurrence evokes memories of a similar incident earlier in 2022, wherein a dengue patient in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, met an unfortunate demise allegedly due to the administration of 'mausami' juice instead of plasma. Following this incident, the hospital in question was sealed, and the Uttar Pradesh government initiated an inquiry into the matter to ascertain accountability and prevent such incidents from recurring.
