970 kg of mephedrone were found in South Delhi rental rooms

Police investigators disclosed that a man hailing from West Bengal, as part of a clandestine operation, procured two separate rooms in south Delhi, masquerading under the guise of engaging in the salt trade, to store a substantial quantity of Mephedrone amounting to 970 kg, authorities stated.

A comprehensive crackdown spanning Pune and Delhi resulted in the confiscation of an astonishing 1,700 kg of Mephedrone, colloquially known as "Meow Meow," valued at approximately Rs 3,500 crore in the global market. In the wake of multiple raids across both cities, law enforcement officials have apprehended eight individuals.

Delhi Police has initiated an inquiry to trace the drug's entry route into the national capital and ascertain the volume supplied to local drug peddlers, officials confirmed.

According to police reports, a West Bengal native individual secured two distinct rooms in south Delhi's Kotla Mubarakpur and Masjid Moth areas of Hauz Khas, leasing each for a meager sum of Rs 10,000 from a local property broker.

Following a request for collaboration from the Pune Police's Crime Branch regarding a narcotics case involving the arrest of three individuals in Pune and the seizure of Mephedrone, a joint operation was orchestrated with Delhi Police. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered in Pune on the matter.

Based on intelligence garnered from the apprehended suspects, a raid was conducted in Kotla Mubarakpur, Delhi, on Tuesday, resulting in the seizure of approximately 300 kg of Mephedrone and the arrest of two additional individuals, a police official disclosed.

"A significant quantity of 600 kg of Mephedrone was recovered from a rented shop in Masjid Moth, Hauz Khas. Both the room and the shop were recently leased," the official further elucidated.

Described as a synthetic stimulant often linked with the "rave party culture" due to its euphoric properties, Mephedrone remains a subject of concern for law enforcement authorities, emphasized a senior police officer.

In total, police seizures in Pune and Delhi amounted to 720 kg and 970 kg, respectively, with an aggregated worth estimated at approximately Rs 3,500 crore. Police sources underscored the formation of numerous investigative teams and the implementation of stringent surveillance measures to gather intelligence on local drug suppliers.
