A 36-year-old lawyer purportedly bludgeoned his elderly parents to death with a brick at their residence, as reported by the police on Thursday.
According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Vikas Kumar, the incident occurred on Wednesday night when Manoj Pal allegedly attacked his father, Om Prakash (70), and mother, Babli (50), with a brick.
Pal, who resided on the ground floor of the house with his wife Namrata, where the tragic incident unfolded, while his parents occupied the first floor. The motive behind the brutal act remains unclear, although the family had been grappling with stress due to Om Prakash's year-long battle with cancer.
"During Wednesday night, Pal initially retired to bed with his parents but later left the premises. Subsequently, he escorted his wife Namrata to her maternal home in Kannauj district. Upon arrival, he confessed to her about the heinous act of killing both his parents before absconding," explained the SP.
Pal's spouse promptly notified the authorities about the gruesome incident on Thursday morning, prompting a swift response from law enforcement.
The bodies of the victims have been subjected to postmortem examination, with ongoing investigations into the matter.
