After the body of a missing lady is discovered, a mob attacks police and media in Bihar

On Sunday, in Bihar's Nawgachhia, a purported group of individuals reportedly launched an attack on police personnel, ostensibly incensed by the discovery of a woman's body nearly two days after her disappearance.

The irate crowd allegedly resorted to violence, not only targeting police officers but also setting ablaze a police vehicle and assaulting journalists who were present at the scene to report on the incident. Regrettably, the assault resulted in severe injuries to two journalists.

As per accounts from local residents, the woman in question, identified as Shobha Devi, had vanished on Friday, February 16, after venturing out to sell milk. However, her lifeless body was found on Sunday, triggering outrage among locals who accused the police of apathy despite repeated complaints.

In response to the escalating tension, senior police authorities swiftly intervened to defuse the situation. An official inquiry has been initiated into the matter, with individuals being interrogated, as confirmed by a police statement.

"We have established a base in the area to restore calm. Efforts are underway to recover the woman's body, with the active involvement of the local Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP)," remarked SP Nawgachhia, Puran Kumar Jha, during an interaction with the press.

This incident echoes a similar episode from the previous year when villagers in Nawgachhia attacked law enforcement officials during a raid on a resident's home. Allegations surfaced that the police team had assaulted the accused's wife and child, further fueling the villagers' anger.

Residents of Dimaha village, aggrieved by the alleged mistreatment of the accused's family, took matters into their own hands, resulting in a confrontation with the police personnel conducting the raid.
