After a constable was fired, a mob attempts to attack the Churchandpur police station in Manipur

In Manipur's Churachandpur, a crowd attempted to breach the premises of the Superintendent of Police's office on Thursday evening, spurred by the suspension of a head constable from the district police force. The suspension came in response to a circulated video allegedly depicting the constable in the company of armed individuals.

The Manipur Police took to X to report the incident, stating, "Approximately 300-400 individuals in a mob attempted to invade the SP CCP office today, resorting to stone-throwing."

"The security forces, including the RAF, have taken appropriate measures by deploying tear gas shells to manage the situation. The situation is being closely monitored," the police added.

Churachandpur SP Shivanand Surve promptly suspended Head Constable Siamlalpaul "with immediate effect until further notice" after the emergence of a viral video on social media. In the footage, Siamlalpaul is seen alongside "armed individuals" and "in the company of village volunteers."

"This constitutes a serious misconduct, considering his status as a member of the disciplined police force," stated a police directive.

"A departmental investigation is being contemplated against Siamlalpaul of the Churachandpur district police, as a video clip has surfaced on social media depicting him filming with armed individuals on February 14," the directive elaborated.

Moreover, Siamlalpaul has been instructed not to depart from the station without prior authorization, and his salary and allowances have been curtailed to the subsistence allowance permitted under the regulations.
