At Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi, a temporary stage collapses, injuring eight people


On Saturday, a distressing occurrence unfolded at Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, where a temporary stage collapsed, resulting in injuries to at least eight individuals. Fortunately, two others were successfully rescued from the scene, which was situated in the vicinity of Gate Number 2 of the stadium, where ongoing construction work was taking place.

Promptly upon receiving notification of the incident, a combined team comprising personnel from the Delhi Police and fire services swiftly arrived at the location to assess the situation and provide assistance. Visual documentation from the scene depicted law enforcement officers actively engaged in managing the aftermath.

Confirming the status of the injured, a representative from the Delhi Police affirmed that they had been swiftly transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention. Meanwhile, efforts to search the area for any potential additional victims or hazards remained ongoing.

Offering insights into the sequence of events, DCP South, Ankit Chauhan, disclosed, "The incident occurred approximately at 11 am this morning." He elaborated, "A temporary structure, akin to a pandal, being set up near Gate Number 2 of the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium collapsed. Initially, it was feared that nearly 12 individuals might have been trapped under the debris." However, all individuals were successfully extricated from the rubble and subsequently conveyed to AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences) for necessary medical care.

As of the latest update, there have been no reports of fatalities stemming from the incident. The DCP emphasized the coordinated response efforts involving law enforcement, fire services, and medical personnel, underscoring the collaborative endeavors aimed at ensuring the safety and well-being of all individuals involved.
