Because of disagreements with Akhilesh Yadav, Swami Prasad Maurya leaves the Samajwadi Party

Swami Prasad Maurya, a prominent figure within the Samajwadi Party, has announced his departure from the party, citing fundamental disagreements with party leader Akhilesh Yadav. This decision comes precisely one week after Maurya tendered his resignation from the position of national general secretary. Maurya attributed his resignation to what he perceives as a departure from the party's socialist principles by Akhilesh Yadav.

In his resignation letter addressed to Akhilesh Yadav, which he shared on X platform, Maurya reiterated the ideological disparities that led to his decision. Speaking to the news agency PTI following his resignation, Maurya elaborated on his reasons, highlighting his commitment to principled and ethical politics. He expressed his belief that Akhilesh Yadav's approach deviated from the socialist ethos, contrasting it with the leadership of Mulayam Singh Yadav, whom he regarded as a steadfast advocate of socialist principles.

Upon relinquishing his role as the party's national general secretary, Maurya expressed his intention to remain engaged in strengthening the Samajwadi Party, albeit without holding any official position.

Maurya, a member of the state legislative council, had switched allegiance from the BJP to the Samajwadi Party ahead of the 2022 elections. However, his tenure within the party was marked by controversies, including contentious remarks about the Ramcharitmanas and the consecration ceremony of the Ayodhya temple.
