Before the Lok Sabha elections, a gaming app based on Dravidian ideas was released at Comic Con

Ahead of the imminent Lok Sabha elections, a unique gaming experience centered on "Dravidian principles" was unveiled at the Chennai Comic Con event on Saturday, providing players with an interactive platform to delve into the intricacies of governance as a chief minister.

Dubbed 'Makkalin Mudhalvar,' the game, introduced by Populus Empowerment Network (PEN), aims to offer participants a simulated environment where they step into the shoes of a chief minister, navigating the complexities of state governance and electoral dynamics while adhering to Dravidian ideals.

Players are incentivized for decisions that resonate with Dravidian principles, as the game serves as an educational tool targeted at individuals aged between 16 and 25, fostering a deeper understanding of the "Dravidian model." Available in both Tamil and English, 'Makkalin Mudhalvar' serves as a platform for users to explore the nuances of governance rooted in Dravidian ideology.

The game's moniker, translating to 'people's chief minister,' mirrors the Tamil Nadu government's 'Makkaludan Mudhalvar' initiative, which endeavors to address citizens' grievances within a stipulated timeframe.

Pooja Pradeep, a program manager, elaborated on the game's mechanics, emphasizing its role in familiarizing young individuals with the tenets of Dravidian ideology. "Our aim is to equip them with an understanding of the Dravidian model, particularly as they exercise their voting rights. The response has been overwhelming, with approximately 1,500 installations recorded thus far," Pradeep noted.

Pradeep outlined the game's format, comprising a series of questions where there are no incorrect responses; rather, each choice contributes to a cumulative score reflecting the player's alignment with principles of rationalism, cultural heritage, and gender empowerment, ultimately shaping their long-term vision.

The game's development team emphasized the player's pivotal role as the chief minister, entrusted with upholding the fundamental values of Dravidian ideology, including equality, empowerment, and secularism. Through gameplay, participants gain insights into how Dravidian parties have championed these values, fostering a deeper appreciation for the ideological framework underpinning Tamil Nadu's governance.

Highlighting the visionary approach behind the game's conception, Pradeep credited Sabarisan Vedamurthy, the founder, for leveraging contemporary media to engage youth and elucidate the significance of the Dravidian Model. "Sabarisan's unwavering support and encouragement have been instrumental in elevating interactive entertainment to new heights," she remarked.

Currently accessible on the Google Play Store for Android users, 'Makkalin Mudhalvar' represents a pioneering endeavor to leverage gaming as a medium for civic education, empowering the youth with a nuanced understanding of governance informed by Dravidian ethos.
