Following the Communist Party of India (CPI)'s nomination of Annie Raja as its candidate for the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing a rally in Thiruvananthapuram, commented on the complex relationship between the Left Front and the Congress, characterizing them as adversaries within Kerala but allies elsewhere.
In his speech, PM Modi suggested that the Left Front harbored intentions of ousting the Congress's "crown prince," a veiled reference to Rahul Gandhi, from the Wayanad constituency in Kerala, currently held by him.
Drawing attention to the contradictory nature of their relationship, PM Modi highlighted the paradox wherein the two parties engaged in hostilities and violence within Kerala yet maintained a camaraderie beyond the state borders.
PM Modi's remarks implied that while the Left Front desires Rahul Gandhi's removal from Wayanad, they maintain a cordial rapport with the Congress outside of Kerala. He further insinuated that the Left's advice to Rahul Gandhi to refrain from contesting in Kerala serves as evidence of their antagonistic stance.
Expanding on his critique, PM Modi asserted that the primary objective of the Congress and its leftist allies is to perpetuate dynastic rule, prioritizing the interests of their own families over those of the nation's citizens.
These remarks were made in the wake of the CPI's announcement of candidates for several constituencies in the Lok Sabha polls, including Wayanad, where Annie Raja has been nominated. Raja's suggestion that Rahul Gandhi should abstain from contesting in Wayanad and focus on strengthening the INDIA bloc aligns with sentiments echoed by other leftist leaders, including Brinda Karat, who advocated for Gandhi to direct his efforts against the BJP rather than competing with the Left.
