Bunty Bains, a creator of Punjabi music, is shot by gunmen at a Mohali restaurant

Punjabi music composer and songwriter Bunty Bains narrowly escaped a potentially fatal attack in Mohali, Punjab on Tuesday when unidentified perpetrators targeted him with gunfire while he was dining at a restaurant located in the city's sector 79.

Fortunately, Bains emerged unscathed from the incident, managing to evade any physical harm. Subsequently, he promptly lodged a formal complaint with the local authorities regarding the attempted assault.

In an interview with Aaj Tak/India Today, Bains recounted the terrifying ordeal, revealing that following the attack, he received a menacing phone call demanding a hefty ransom of Rs 1 crore. The caller issued a dire ultimatum, warning of dire consequences, including potential harm to Bains, if the demanded amount was not paid.

Allegedly, the threat was attributed to Lucky Patial, a notorious criminal figure believed to be operating from Canada. Patial is reputedly associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi and Bambiha criminal networks, both of which have been implicated in various illicit activities throughout Punjab.

Law enforcement authorities have initiated an investigation into the shooting incident, aiming to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

Bains, recognized for his significant contributions to the Punjabi music industry and his role in fostering the careers of several prominent artists, notably the late Sidhu Moose Wala, has been instrumental in shaping the landscape of Punjabi music. It is worth noting that Bains' company had previously managed Moose Wala's affairs during his lifetime.

Significantly, Sidhu Moose Wala tragically fell victim to a drive-by shooting in May 2022, an incident for which gangster Goldy Brar claimed responsibility.
