CBI will investigate the death of Haryana politician Nafe Singh Rathee; no arrests have been made as of yet

According to authorities, the inquiry into the tragic shooting incident involving Haryana Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) chief Nafe Singh Rathee has been entrusted to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), as confirmed by police sources on Monday. The unfortunate incident occurred on Sunday when unidentified assailants opened fire at Rathee's SUV, resulting in his untimely demise in the Bahadurgarh region of Haryana's Jhajjar district.

Deputy Commissioner of Jhajjar, Shakti Singh, and Superintendent of Police, Arpit Jain, jointly declared on Monday that the investigation into the shooting incident concerning the INLD leader will be conducted by the esteemed central investigative agency, the CBI.

Furthermore, SP Jain elaborated that no arrests have been made thus far in connection with the shooting, although several individuals have been detained for questioning. "The individuals suspected of involvement are currently under surveillance, and our investigative efforts are being led by five dedicated teams," noted Shakti Singh.

Law enforcement officials disclosed that the assailants employed various firearms during the attack on Nafe Singh Rathee, as evidenced by the recovery of distinct cartridges from the crime scene.

Earlier assessments by medical professionals revealed that Rathee sustained multiple gunshot wounds during the assault.

In parallel, Haryana Police initiated inquiries at Delhi's Tihar jail on Monday to interrogate certain individuals associated with organized crime syndicates in relation to Rathee's shooting. They also intend to question gang members confined in correctional facilities across other states.

Family members of Rathee and INLD leader Abhay Chautala issued an ultimatum to law enforcement, stipulating a seven-day deadline for arrests to be made, threatening decisive action if the perpetrators are not apprehended promptly.

Following the incident on Sunday, Chautala promptly advocated for a CBI investigation into the matter, asserting that police authorities had previously alerted Rathee about potential threats to his life six months prior. Chautala further disclosed that Rathee had corresponded with the Jhajjar SP, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Home Minister Anil Vij, and the Director General seeking security measures, which unfortunately were not provided.

Tragically, alongside Rathee, an INLD member succumbed to injuries sustained during the attack, while several security personnel sustained critical injuries, underscoring the severity and urgency of the situation.
