Congress will decide this week on seat-sharing with partners of the Jammu and Kashmir INDIA alliance

Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee president Vikar Rasool Wani announced on Thursday that the party is set to finalize a collaborative arrangement for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections with the National Conference (NC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the region. He emphasized that the coalition, dubbed the "INDIA bloc," is poised to bring its collective strength to bear in the electoral arena.

According to a statement quoted by the news agency PTI, Wani conveyed, "In J-K, you will get good news in the coming few days that Congress, NC, and PDP have done seat-sharing and we will fight the election jointly. We will fight with full might and achieve a clean sweep." He further disclosed that discussions regarding the alliances are in their final stages, with an official announcement expected to be made during the initial week of March.

Elaborating on the intricacies of seat allocation within the alliance, Wani remarked, "Any party can say it wants to contest as many seats, but we only have six seats including Ladakh. So when an alliance takes place, final talks happen and seat-sharing is done. Wherever a particular party contests, the other two parties will give full support."

Moreover, Wani advocated for the synchronization of assembly elections alongside the Lok Sabha polls, reasoning that if the conditions permit parliamentary elections, there should be no obstacle to holding assembly elections concurrently.

"We demand both elections be held together. If the situation is good for Parliamentary polls, why not for assembly elections?" questioned Wani. He pointed out that the Supreme Court has already mandated the conduct of assembly elections by September and suggested that organizing both elections simultaneously would prevent unnecessary expenditure.
