Digvijaya Singh on Kamal Nath's 'BJP switch' hysteria: 'Not one to cave to pressure'

In the midst of widespread speculation surrounding the potential departure of former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath and his son Nakul to the BJP, senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh stepped forward to defend Nath's allegiance to the party, affirming his steadfastness in the face of adversity.

Addressing reporters on Sunday, Digvijaya Singh lauded Kamal Nath's longstanding commitment to the Congress, likening him to a revered figure within the party's ranks. Singh dismissed any notions of Nath's inclination towards defection, citing his unwavering loyalty and significant contributions to the party's cause over the years.

"Kamal Nath ji, whom we all hold in high regard as a stalwart of the Congress, has been an integral part of the party's fabric," Singh remarked.

Dispelling rumors of dissatisfaction within Nath's camp, Singh highlighted the array of prestigious roles Nath had occupied within the Congress hierarchy, including ministerial positions at both the central and state levels, as well as the post of Chief Minister. Singh contended that given Nath's illustrious track record and the recognition he has received within the party, the notion of him abandoning the Congress seemed implausible.

"He has held various significant positions within the party, including Ministerial roles at the national and state levels, and even served as the Chief Minister. Considering his extensive service to the Congress, I find it highly unlikely that he would contemplate leaving the party," Singh asserted.

In the face of mounting pressure from investigative agencies such as the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), and Income Tax (IT) department, Singh praised Nath's resilience, noting that his character remained unswayed by external pressures.

"Despite the challenges posed by various investigative agencies, Kamal Nath ji has demonstrated unwavering resolve," Singh remarked, underscoring Nath's resilience in the face of adversity.

Singh disclosed that he maintains regular communication with Kamal Nath regarding the ongoing developments, affirming ongoing discussions with senior Congress leadership to address any concerns Nath may have.

Meanwhile, Kamal Nath, currently in Delhi, refrained from commenting on speculations surrounding his potential defection, maintaining a guarded stance when questioned by reporters.

The speculation surrounding Nath's purported departure from the Congress gained momentum following remarks made by state BJP president VD Sharma, who extended a warm invitation to Nath and his son should they harbor any discontent with the Congress.

Further intensifying speculation, Nakul Nath, Kamal Nath's son, made alterations to his social media profile, removing references to the Congress party. Their recent visit to Delhi has only added fuel to the already raging fire of speculation regarding their political future.
