"Electoral bonds as a means of bribery": Rahul Gandhi's jab at the PM following a court ruling

Following the Supreme Court's striking down of the electoral bonds scheme, Rahul Gandhi swiftly criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging that the scheme had become a conduit for bribes and commissions under the BJP's governance.

In a social media post, the Congress leader asserted, "Here is yet another instance highlighting the corrupt practices of Narendra Modi. The BJP has transformed electoral bonds into a mechanism for soliciting bribes and commissions."

A rough translation of Rahul Gandhi's Hindi post suggested, "Today, this issue has been vindicated."

In a significant ruling that dealt a severe blow to the government, the Supreme Court declared the electoral bonds scheme unconstitutional, citing violations of the Constitutional rights to freedom of speech and expression, as well as the right to information.

The court mandated the State Bank of India (SBI) to divulge to the Election Commission the identities of contributors to the six-year-old scheme.

Led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, a five-judge Constitution bench directed the State Bank of India to furnish particulars of each electoral bond cashed by political parties, including the date of encashment and the denomination of the bonds, to the poll panel by March 6.

Furthermore, the bench instructed that the Election Commission should publicize the information shared by the SBI on its official website by March 13.
