Farmers demand a FIR in the death of a Bathinda man and halt the "Dilli Chalo" march

Addressing the press at Khaneri border, farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher announced on Friday that the 'Dilli Chalo' march will be put on hold until February 29. Amidst the ongoing impasse between the protesting farmers and the central government, the farmer representatives stated that further decisions regarding the demonstration's trajectory will be deliberated upon post-February 29.

During the press briefing held at Khaneri border, Sarwan Singh Pandher elucidated that the forthcoming steps for the protest will be disclosed after February 29, following a scheduled meeting of farmer unions slated for February 27.

"We shall convene a gathering of farmer unions on February 27 to chart out the subsequent course of action post-February 29," Pandher asserted.

Jagjit Singh Dallewal, leader of Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) Ekta, expressed the intention to stage a demonstration if the Punjab government refrains from initiating an FIR concerning the demise of Subhkaran Singh.

As per the farmers' account, Shubhkaran Singh, aged 22 and hailing from Punjab's Bathinda, succumbed during a confrontation with the Haryana Police on February 21. Certain farmers alleged his demise occurred due to police tear gas shelling.

"If the Punjab government remains inert on filing an FIR in this instance, we will construe it as capitulation to the Central authority," remarked Jagjit Singh Dallewal.

Furthermore, Sarwan Singh Pandher announced plans for a candle march in honor of Shubhkaran Singh scheduled for Saturday.

Regarding dialogues with the Central government, Jagjit Singh Dallewal clarified, "No entreaty for the fifth round of discussions has been received from the central government."

"We aspire to present several grievances before the Supreme Court and the Human Rights Commission. The non-governmental organizations (NGOs) providing medical assistance at the borders are now facing intimidation from the government. The government has purportedly infiltrated agents into our protest and may resort to fatal measures," Dallewal expressed concerns.
