If Kamal Nath joins the BJP, twelve Congress MLAs and leaders might go with him: Sources

According to sources disclosed to India Today TV on Saturday, it is anticipated that around 12 Congress MLAs and former legislators might accompany the former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath and his son Nakul if they opt to align with the BJP.

The speculation surrounding Kamal Nath and his son, who currently serves as the MP from Chhindwara, considering a switch to the BJP gained traction after the arrival of the veteran Congress leader in Delhi on Saturday.

While Kamal Nath refrained from confirming his potential move to the BJP, he maintained a reserved stance when questioned by reporters outside his residence in Delhi. "It is not about denying, you are saying this, you people are getting excited. I am not getting excited, this side or that side, but if there is any such thing, I would inform you first," Nath articulated.

Earlier during the day, Nakul Nath, the Member of Parliament from Chhindwara, revised his profile bio on X, removing any mention of the Congress affiliation. Additionally, Sajjan Singh Verma, a Congress MLA from Sonkatch, purportedly expunged the party's logo from his social media profiles.

Adding fuel to the speculation, BJP spokesperson and Kamal Nath's former media advisor Narendra Saluja shared a photograph of the former Chief Minister and his son taken in Bhopal, captioning it with "Jai Shri Ram".

The anticipated announcement regarding Kamal Nath and his son's potential transition to the BJP is speculated to occur after the conclusion of the party's two-day national convention held at Bharat Mandapam in Delhi.

However, senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh dismissed the rumors surrounding Kamal Nath's potential defection to the BJP, citing the veteran leader's long-standing association with the Nehru-Gandhi family.

Furthermore, Kamal Nath himself made a cryptic remark earlier this month when approached about the speculations, stating, "There are so many rumors going on, what can I say about them?"

Addressing the potential departure of his Congress colleagues to the BJP, Kamal Nath remarked, "All are free, and are not bound to be associated with any party."

The purported discontentment of Kamal Nath stems from his dissatisfaction over not securing a Rajya Sabha berth and the perceived treatment by the party after the Congress's defeat in the recent Madhya Pradesh Assembly polls, where he was replaced as the party's Madhya Pradesh chief.
