In January, Nikki Haley raises more money than Donald Trump

Nikki Haley, an Indian-American Republican candidate for the presidency, has surpassed her competitor, former President Donald Trump, in fundraising during January, marking her most successful fundraising period to date. Haley managed to secure $11.5 million in donations, while Trump trailed behind with $8.8 million in contributions.

Despite this fundraising triumph, Haley finds herself lagging behind Trump by more than 30 points in South Carolina's upcoming Republican primary, scheduled for February 24. Notably, Haley formerly served as the governor of South Carolina.

However, recent polling data suggests that Haley could present a formidable challenge to Democratic President Joe Biden in a hypothetical electoral matchup. According to the latest polls, Haley commands 46% of voter support, narrowly edging out Biden, who trails with 43%. In contrast, in a hypothetical rematch between Trump and Biden, Trump trails behind, with Biden leading by a margin of 49% to 45%.

In the lead-up to the crucial South Carolina primary, the Trump Campaign disclosed its January fundraising results, revealing a discrepancy between fundraising and expenditure. The campaign raised approximately $8.8 million while incurring expenses totaling around $11.5 million, resulting in a net loss of over $2.6 million. Furthermore, Trump's "Save America" leadership political action committee faced challenges, raising a mere $8,508 from donors while spending roughly $3.9 million.

In contrast, Biden's campaign boasted a substantial fundraising achievement in January, amassing $15 million in donations, with expenditures totaling $6 million. The campaign currently maintains a cash reserve of $130 million.

Reflecting on the fundraising landscape, Ammar Moussa, the Director of Rapid Response for Biden-Harris 2024, remarked on the financial challenges facing Trump's campaign, noting the Republican National Committee's subpar fundraising performance and Trump's entry into the general election with a comparatively weaker operational setup.

As of February, Biden's campaign possesses approximately $56 million in cash reserves, significantly surpassing Trump's $30 million.

Meanwhile, Nikki Haley's campaign boasts a cash reserve of around $13 million, positioning her as a formidable contender in the presidential race.
