In an Odisha gambling den search, a woman police officer was attacked and taken prisoner

In a concerning incident reported by the police, a female police inspector encountered resistance and violence while leading an operation to shut down an illicit gambling establishment in Odisha's Balasore district on Sunday evening.

According to police sources, Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) Champabati Soren of Talasari Marine Police Station was spearheading a raid on a suspected gambling den in Udaipur village. As the operation unfolded, what began as a verbal confrontation swiftly escalated into physical aggression, culminating in the miscreants forcibly confining IIC Soren within the premises.

During the altercation, the patrolling vehicle's driver, Sudhansu Mohanty, intervened in an attempt to assist, but he sustained injuries and was left bleeding at the scene. Prompt response teams from Bhogarai Police Station and Chandaneswar Police Outpost were dispatched to the site to extricate IIC Soren and Mohanty from the hostile environment.

Confirming the incident, Jaleswar Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Dilip Sahu stated, "The team from Talasari Marine Police Station received intelligence regarding illicit gambling operations in the area." He further added, "Upon arrival, they were met with violent resistance from the perpetrators, resulting in physical assault. An extensive investigation is underway, and appropriate legal measures will be pursued."

Approximately 20 individuals suspected of involvement in the assault and unlawful gambling activities have been apprehended for interrogation. In response to the escalating tensions, authorities have bolstered security measures in Udaipur village, deploying a platoon of police personnel to maintain public order and safeguard against further untoward incidents.
