K Kavitha would ignore the CBI's summons in the Delhi liquor scandal because of pressing engagements

K Kavitha, a legislator representing BRS and the daughter of former Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, penned a letter to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Sunday, addressing the summons she received regarding the alleged Delhi liquor policy scam.

In her communication with the CBI, Kavitha raised objections to the utilization of Section 41A of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) in the summons, expressing perplexity over its application without sufficient rationale.

Highlighting her packed schedule and commitments, Kavitha conveyed her inability to appear before the CBI on February 26, citing prior engagements that demand her presence in the state, particularly during the ongoing parliamentary elections.

Requesting the withdrawal of the summons, Kavitha underscored the importance of the probe agency being aware of a prior notice issued under Section 160, urging the CBI to temporarily suspend the notice in light of her demanding schedule and obligations to constituents.

She appealed to the CBI to consider the practical challenges she faces due to her responsibilities towards the people, which involve numerous personal meetings scheduled across various districts over the next six weeks.

Despite her inability to appear in person, Kavitha expressed her willingness to cooperate with the investigation through virtual means, offering to respond to queries or provide information as needed.

Moreover, Kavitha questioned the rationale behind invoking Section 41A of the CrPC, especially considering the matter's current sub-judice status before the Supreme Court, particularly with the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) case stemming from the ongoing investigation.

According to officials, Kavitha had been summoned to appear before the CBI investigation team at their headquarters in New Delhi on Monday, following a previous statement recorded at her residence in Hyderabad in December 2022.
