Maryam Nawaz is the inaugural woman Chief Minister of Punjab Province, Pakistan

Maryam Nawaz, a prominent figure within the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party and the daughter of Pakistan's three-time former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, has achieved a significant milestone by assuming the role of the first female Chief Minister of Punjab province, as reported on Monday.

At the age of 50, serving as the senior vice president of PML-N, Maryam Nawaz secured victory in the chief ministerial elections amidst a scenario marked by the walkout of lawmakers affiliated with the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC), which is supported by former Prime Minister Imran Khan's party.

In a notable electoral contest, Maryam Nawaz emerged victorious over her rival candidate, Rana Aftab, who was supported by the SIC backed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), clinching the chief ministerial position for Punjab province, which holds significant political sway with a population of approximately 120 million inhabitants.

Prior to her participation in the Punjab Assembly's election proceedings for the chief ministerial post, Maryam Nawaz paid respects at her mother's gravesite in Jati Umra, as well as visited the resting place of her paternal grandparents, as revealed in a post on X shared by the PML-N.

In anticipation of this historic event, the PML-N had previously expressed their anticipation and pride, affirming Maryam Nawaz's forthcoming inauguration as Punjab's Chief Minister, highlighting the significance of this achievement for the nation.
