Michelle Obama is the front-runner to unseat Joe Biden in the US presidential contest

A recent survey conducted by Rasmussen Reports has revealed that a significant portion of Democratic voters views former US First Lady Michelle Obama as the frontrunner to potentially replace President Joe Biden as the Democratic Party's nominee for the upcoming 2024 presidential election.

According to the survey findings released on Monday, approximately 48 percent of Democratic voters polled expressed their preference for the party to seek an alternative candidate to Joe Biden before the November election, while 38 percent held a contrary opinion. Despite this sentiment, only 33 percent of Democrats believe that such a shift in the ballot is likely to occur, as reported by The New York Post.

Among the array of options presented to replace the 81-year-old Joe Biden, Michelle Obama emerged as the top choice, garnering support from 20 percent of respondents. Other potential contenders included Vice President Kamala Harris, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, California Governor Gavin Newsom, and Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, alongside selections such as "none of the above" and "not sure."

Following Michelle Obama, 15 percent of surveyed Democrats expressed their preference for Kamala Harris as the Democratic presidential candidate, while 12 percent advocated for a rematch between Hillary Clinton, aged 76, and Donald Trump, aged 77, reminiscent of the 2016 presidential election.

Governor Newsom, aged 56, who has faced allegations of orchestrating a "shadow campaign" for the presidency should Biden withdraw from the race, secured 11 percent of the votes, while Governor Whitmer, aged 52, garnered 9 percent of support from Democratic voters.

Michelle Obama, whose husband Barack Obama served as the US President from 2009 to 2017, has frequently been encouraged to venture into politics and contend in the presidential race. In a recent report by USAToday, Michelle Obama admitted to feeling "terrified" about the potential outcomes of the 2024 presidential election, expressing concerns about the public's perception of the government's role in democracy.

As the 2024 presidential election looms, speculation abounds regarding a potential rematch between Joe Biden and Donald Trump. Despite apprehensions surrounding Biden's advancing age, he has affirmed his intention to seek reelection, while Trump continues to enjoy enduring popularity despite encountering legal setbacks.
