Political parties reveal their income for 2022–2023; BJP is the richest, while AAP is up 91%



According to the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), in the fiscal year 2022-23, the six major national parties collectively disclosed an aggregate income of approximately Rs 3077 crore. Among these, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) garnered the largest share, amounting to approximately Rs 2361 crore, which constitutes a significant 76.73 percent of the total income amassed by these parties during the stated period.

Following the BJP, the Indian National Congress declared the second-highest income, totaling Rs 452.375 crore, contributing 14.70 percent to the cumulative income of the six national parties. Additionally, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), National People's Party (NPP), and Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) have also disclosed their respective incomes.

Over the period spanning from the fiscal year 2021-22 to 2022-23, the BJP experienced a notable surge in income, marking an increase of 23.15 percent or Rs 443.724 crore, from Rs 1917.12 crore in FY 2021-22 to Rs 2360.844 crore in FY 2022-23, as per the ADR's findings.

During the same comparative period, the income of the NPP exhibited a substantial surge of 1502.12 percent, or Rs 7.09 crore, escalating from Rs 47.20 lakh in FY 2021-22 to Rs 7.562 crore in FY 2022-23. Similarly, AAP's income witnessed a robust growth of 91.23 percent, amounting to Rs 40.631 crore, from Rs 44.539 crore in FY 2021-22 to Rs 85.17 crore in FY 2022-23.

Contrarily, the income of the Congress, CPI(M), and BSP experienced declines during the transition from the fiscal year 2021-22 to 2022-23. The Congress reported a decrease of 16.42 percent (Rs 88.90 crore), the CPI(M) recorded a decline of 12.68 percent (Rs 20.575 crore), and the BSP witnessed a downturn of 33.14 percent (Rs 14.508 crore), as per their submissions to the Election Commission.

Furthermore, the ADR's analysis revealed that while the BJP disclosed a total income of Rs 2360.844 crore in FY 2022-23, its expenditure accounted for only 57.68 percent of this income, totaling Rs 1361.684 crore. Conversely, the Congress recorded a total income of Rs 452.375 crore but incurred an expenditure surpassing this amount by 3.26 percent, with expenditure reaching Rs 467.135 crore.

Similarly, the CPI(M) recorded a total income of Rs 141.661 crore and expended 74.87 percent of this amount, totaling Rs 106.067 crore. AAP's total income amounted to Rs 85.17 crore, with its expenditure exceeding this income by 19.82 percent, totaling Rs 102.051 crore for the fiscal year.
