Resolution against Centre'stalling' state money is passed by Karnataka, prompting complaints from the BJP

Unruly scenes marked the proceedings of the Karnataka Assembly on Thursday as a resolution was tabled against the alleged withholding of state tax revenue by the central government, leading to a tumultuous debate.

The resolution, initiated by the Congress government in the Assembly, addressed grievances concerning the Center's purported failure to allocate Karnataka its due share of tax revenue. Earlier this month, Congress leaders had also organized a protest in Delhi, urging for the timely release of funds.

Emphasizing the principles of federalism enshrined in the Indian Constitution, the resolution underscored the importance of equitable distribution of resources for the balanced development of all states within the nation's democratic framework.

"In the context of the BJP-led NDA government at the Center over the past decade, concerns have arisen regarding instances of bias in various facets of financial allocation, including grants recommended by finance commissions, distribution of central shares for drought relief based on predefined criteria, and allocation of development projects without impartiality," the resolution articulated.

Following the passage of the resolution, BJP legislators congregated in the well of the House, engaging in vociferous slogans in protest.

Furthermore, the Assembly adopted another resolution in solidarity with farmers, advocating for the establishment of Minimum Support Price (MSP) for all agricultural produce.

"This Assembly unanimously urges the Central Government to enact legislation mandating the fixation of minimum support price for all crops cultivated by farmers. The Assembly underscores the imperative of addressing the legitimate demands of farmers without resorting to confrontational approaches," the resolution affirmed.
