"Stalking Hindu women": The BJP intensifies its criticism of Trinamool over Sandeshkhali

The West Bengal BJP launched a scathing attack on the Trinamool Congress (TMC) concerning the Sandeshkhali incident, alleging that individuals described as "goons" were systematically targeting Hindu women, subjecting them to sexual assault.

During a press briefing held in Delhi, BJP MP Locket Chatterjee asserted that Hindu women were facing relentless persecution, with perpetrators allegedly affiliated with the local TMC faction. Chatterjee further claimed that those who dared to speak out against such atrocities found themselves subjected to further victimization, with their homes being burglarized after granting media interviews.

Highlighting the perceived inaction on the part of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and law enforcement agencies, Chatterjee criticized the apparent lack of response and accused the police administration of being complicit in shielding TMC interests. She lamented the absence of a formal police report, insinuating collusion between the TMC and law enforcement personnel.

Accusing the TMC of prioritizing electoral gains over addressing the plight of victimized women, Chatterjee lambasted Banerjee's silence on the matter, alleging a deliberate silence to secure a vote bank. Drawing parallels with atrocities against women in Pakistan, Chatterjee asserted that a similar trend was emerging in West Bengal under the TMC regime.

Chatterjee further decried the alarming vulnerability of women in West Bengal, branding the state as the "most unsafe" for women across the nation. She underscored the irony of a state led by a female Chief Minister yet plagued by rampant insecurity and lawlessness.

In response to Banerjee's dismissal of the Sandeshkhali incident as an orchestrated controversy, Chatterjee denounced such assertions as baseless and accused the TMC of downplaying serious allegations of sexual assault and land grabbing. She criticized Banerjee's characterization of the incident as an attempt to instigate unrest and emphasized the urgency of addressing the grievances of the affected women.

While Banerjee pledged action against perpetrators and promised restitution for victims, Chatterjee remained skeptical of the sincerity of such assurances, citing a history of inaction and lack of accountability within the TMC ranks.

As the controversy unfolds, a delegation led by the National Commission for Women (NCW) chairperson Rekha Sharma is slated to visit Sandeshkhali to engage with the women allegedly victimized by TMC leaders, underscoring the gravity of the situation and the urgent need for redressal.
