Sunni party candidates supported by Imran Khan will join, according to his party chairman

According to Barrister Gohar Khan, the interim chief, independent candidates supported by Pakistan’s incarcerated former prime minister, who secured seats in the recent inconclusive elections spanning over 10 days, will align themselves with the minority Sunni Ittehad Council Political Party to establish a government. This announcement was made during a press briefing on Monday.

Barrister Gohar Khan explained that the rationale behind this decision was to enable former PM Imran Khan's party, the Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), which was disqualified from participating in the election, to access reserved seats in the national assembly.

Reserved seats in the National Assembly, amounting to 70 in total - 60 for women and 10 for non-Muslims - are allocated based on the proportional representation of political parties. This allocation supplements the total count of 336 seats in the National Assembly. It's noteworthy that independent candidates are ineligible for these reserved seats.

During the press briefing, the leader of the Sunni Ittehad Council Political Party emphasized that they had formalized an agreement with the PTI, clarifying that all directives would originate from the PTI and its incarcerated leader Khan.
