The CBI is taking Netflix's Indrani Mukerjea docuseries to court

On Saturday, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took action by submitting an application before a special court in Mumbai, requesting a halt on the airing of a documentary series centered around Indrani Mukerjea, the primary suspect in the Sheena Bora murder case.

Titled ‘The Indrani Mukerjea Story: The Buried Truth’, the documentary series delves into the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of 25-year-old Bora and is slated to premiere on the streaming platform Netflix on February 23.

Through public prosecutor CJ Nandode, the CBI filed the application, urging the court to "direct the accused and other relevant parties to refrain from featuring individuals implicated in the case in the Netflix documentary and from broadcasting it on any platform until the conclusion of the ongoing trial."

Responding to the CBI's application, CBI Special Judge SP Naik-Nimbalkar issued notices to Netflix Entertainment Services India and other relevant parties, requesting their input on the matter. The court has scheduled a hearing on the application for February 20.

Sheena Bora, aged 24 at the time, was purportedly strangled to death in a car by Indrani Mukerjea, her former driver Shyamvar Rai, and ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna in April 2012. Bora, who was Indrani’s daughter from a previous relationship, was found deceased, her body burnt, in a forest in the neighboring Raigad district.

The murder case came to light in 2015 when Shyamvar Rai, the driver, disclosed the incident following his arrest in another unrelated case. Indrani Mukerjea was arrested in August 2015 and was granted bail in May 2022. Additionally, Rai, Khanna, and Peter Mukerjea are also currently out on bail in connection with the case.
