To establish a coalition government, Nawaz Sharif's party is in negotiations with smaller parties

On Wednesday, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) engaged in discussions with smaller political parties as part of its ongoing endeavors to establish a coalition administration led by party president Shehbaz Sharif at the national level.

In line with a previously agreed-upon arrangement with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), representatives of the PML-N engaged in dialogues with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), Balochistan Awami Party (BAP), Istekam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP), and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) to solidify strategies for forming a coalition government.

Noteworthy attendees from both the PML-N and MQM-P, including Kamran Tessori, Mustafa Kamal, and Dr. Farooq Sattar, convened in Islamabad to discuss collaborative endeavors, as highlighted in a statement issued by the PML-N.

Reports from The Express Tribune suggest that the PML-N and MQM-P have reached a mutual understanding to cooperate within the framework of the government, signifying a commitment to fostering reconciliation and collaboration aimed at bolstering political, democratic, and economic stability nationwide.

Among the key focal points of their deliberations was the imperative of ensuring an equitable distribution of resources and authority, laying the groundwork for future discussions on pivotal issues such as safeguarding urban rights in Sindh, notably in Karachi, and revitalizing the economic significance of the port city.

Concurrently, a gathering between the coordination committees of PML-N and BAP took place, with an emphasis on addressing the challenges encountered by Balochistan and the federation, according to another official statement.

Representatives from both parties reiterated their dedication to establishing robust democratic governance structures at both federal and provincial levels.

Similarly, a meeting between PML-N and IPP leaders transpired in Islamabad, with IPP president Aleem Khan in attendance alongside Ishaq Dar, who led the PML-N delegation. Khan extended unequivocal support to the PML-N across federal and provincial realms.

In a separate context, representatives from the PML-N and JUI-F engaged in discussions regarding government formation in Balochistan province. Although JUI-F sought support for forming a government, the PML-N conveyed its adherence to its existing agreement with the PPP for establishing a coalition government in Balochistan.

Nevertheless, both parties stressed the importance of collaborative endeavors toward advancing the prosperity of Balochistan, affirming their commitment to working together toward this shared objective.

While MQM-P and BAP have pledged their support for the PML-N-led coalition government with Shehbaz Sharif as prime minister, JUI-F has opted not to participate at the federal level.
