Vice Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi takes over as commander in chief



On Monday, Lieutenant General Upendra Dwivedi officially assumed the role of Vice Chief of Army Staff (VCOAS) of the Indian Army, succeeding the former VCOAS, Lieutenant Kumar MV Suchindra Kumar, in the position.

Following his assumption of duties, Lt. General Upendra Dwivedi paid tribute to the courageous soldiers at the National War Memorial (NWM) and meticulously inspected the Guard of Honour, symbolizing his commitment to the responsibilities entrusted to him.

Lt. General Dwivedi boasts an illustrious educational background, having graduated from the esteemed Sainik School in Rewa, the prestigious National Defence Academy, and the renowned Indian Military Academy.

Throughout his distinguished career, Lt. General Dwivedi has held various significant positions, showcasing his leadership prowess and dedication to service. He commenced his journey as a commissioned officer in the 18th Battalion of Jammu and Kashmir Rifles in December 1984, subsequently commanding operations in the challenging terrains of the Kashmir Valley and the arid deserts of Rajasthan.

Additionally, Lt. General Dwivedi has served as the deputy chief at Army Headquarters, led the 9th Corps stationed in Himachal Pradesh, and held the esteemed position of Director-General of Infantry, demonstrating his versatility and strategic acumen in diverse operational environments.
