Video: More than 100 vehicles collide on an icy China roadway, injuring many



According to reports from state media on Friday, numerous individuals sustained injuries as a result of a massive collision involving over 100 vehicles on an expressway in Suzhou, China. This incident, stemming from severe weather conditions, highlights the dangers posed by extreme climatic phenomena.

Footage captured by state television CCTV and shared on social media platforms depicted a chaotic scene, with numerous vehicles entangled on the highway, some positioned at precarious angles, and debris strewn across the roadway.

As per updates provided by the Suzhou Industrial Park traffic police on their WeChat social media account, three individuals sustained injuries requiring hospitalization, while an additional six suffered minor abrasions. Authorities have since restored traffic flow on the road, and an investigation into the cause of the collision is underway.

China has experienced a series of cold waves, blizzards, and icy precipitation in recent weeks, significantly impacting transportation systems during the peak travel period of the Lunar New Year festivities. In response, the government has escalated its emergency measures to address freezing temperatures, implementing various strategies to manage transportation, supplies, and electricity in affected provinces and cities such as Beijing, Hebei, Shanxi, Anhui, and Hubei, according to reports from Xinhua news.

The China Meteorological Administration has maintained heightened warnings for freezing temperatures across several central and southern regions. VariFlight weather warning data, as reported by CCTV, indicates that 34 out of more than 260 airports in the country have issued advisories for fog and snow, further underscoring the widespread impact of adverse weather conditions on transportation networks.
