An IndiGo flight, bearing the designation 6E6125, embarked on its journey from New Delhi to Srinagar amidst adverse weather conditions on Monday. As the aircraft departed from Delhi Airport at 5:25 pm, it encountered heavy turbulence induced by the downpour. Passengers aboard the flight were captured in a video, visibly gripping their seats tightly as the aircraft rattled through the turbulent air.
Among the passengers was Baba Firdous, the esteemed leader of 'Kashmir Seva Sangh,' who later recounted the harrowing experience, likening it to a brush with a new lease on life for himself and his fellow travelers.
In an official statement, the airline acknowledged the challenging conditions faced by the flight, describing it as navigating through severe turbulent weather en route to Srinagar. Emphasizing their adherence to operational protocols, the airline assured that the flight safely landed at its destination despite the adverse weather conditions. Expressing regret for any inconvenience caused to passengers due to the inclement weather, the airline sought to reassure travelers of their commitment to safety and service.
The tumultuous weather wasn't limited to the skies alone. In Jammu and Kashmir, rains and snowfall persisted for the second consecutive day, prompting the suspension of traffic on the vital Jammu-Srinagar national highway. Landslides and stone-shooting from hillocks in Ramban district resulted in the closure of several sections of the highway, disrupting travel plans for numerous commuters. Additionally, precautionary measures led to the closure of two interstate highways, particularly in areas like Bhaderwah in Doda district, where fresh snowfall posed risks to travelers.
The sudden closure of these arterial roads left hundreds of passengers stranded, prompting authorities to advise against travel on the highways until conditions improved and clearance operations could be conducted.
