"We're with you," says Rishi Sunak to King Charles in their first encounter since learning she has cancer

According to reports from UK television channels, King Charles III held an in-person weekly audience with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday, marking their first face-to-face meeting since the monarch disclosed his cancer diagnosis.

The encounter, which took place at Buckingham Palace, occurred following King Charles III's attendance at a church service in Sandringham, his country estate located in eastern England, over the preceding weekend.

During their meeting, King Charles III appeared to be in good spirits, responding jovially to Sunak's observation about his well-being by humorously remarking, "it's all done by mirrors."

In a show of support, Sunak conveyed solidarity, assuring the monarch, "We're all behind you. The country is all behind you."

Expressing gratitude for the outpouring of support he had received, King Charles III revealed, "I've had so many wonderful messages and cards. It's reduced me to tears most of the time."

The announcement of King Charles III's cancer diagnosis was made public on February 5, prompting his relocation from Buckingham Palace to Sandringham for treatment. The diagnosis emerged during an evaluation conducted while he was undergoing medical attention for a separate health concern, specifically a benign enlarged prostate.

His cancer diagnosis came relatively early in his reign, occurring just 17 months after the passing of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, on September 8, 2022.
