On a momentous occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on a series of inaugurations and foundation stone laying ceremonies for a multitude of airport projects nationwide, collectively valued at an impressive sum exceeding Rs 9,800 crore. These endeavors encompass a diverse array of initiatives aimed at enhancing aviation infrastructure and connectivity across the country.
According to a report by PTI news agency, the projects unveiled by the Prime Minister encompass the construction of 12 new terminal buildings, spanning airports in Pune, Kolhapur, Gwalior, Jabalpur, Delhi, Lucknow, Aligarh, Azamgarh, Chitrakoot, Moradabad, Shravasti, and Adampur. Each of these terminals has been meticulously designed and constructed to cater to the evolving needs of air travelers, promising to elevate the overall passenger experience.
Among the notable highlights is the expansion of Delhi's Terminal 1, a pivotal step towards accommodating the burgeoning influx of passengers in the national capital. Additionally, Prime Minister Modi laid the foundation stone for three additional terminal buildings, slated for construction at airports in Kadapa, Hubballi, and Belagavi, further augmenting the nation's aviation infrastructure.
A statement released by the Press Information Bureau (PIB) elucidated that these new terminal buildings collectively boast a substantial capacity to serve a staggering 620 lakh passengers annually. Furthermore, upon the completion of the three upcoming terminals, the airports in question are poised to accommodate an additional 95 lakh passengers per annum, significantly bolstering their operational capabilities.
Moreover, the terminal buildings have been meticulously outfitted with state-of-the-art passenger amenities, incorporating cutting-edge sustainability features such as double-insulated roofing systems, energy-saving canopies, and LED lighting infrastructure. Notably, the architectural designs draw inspiration from the rich heritage and cultural tapestry of their respective states and cities, paying homage to local traditions and sensibilities.
Addressing the gathering virtually from Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Prime Minister Modi underscored the transformative impact of these initiatives, emphasizing their role in democratizing air travel and rendering it more accessible to the masses. He commended the rapid pace of development, highlighting the exemplary completion of the new terminal at Gwalior airport within a commendable timeframe of 16 months.
In addition to the airport projects, Prime Minister Modi also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for a slew of major National Highway and railway initiatives, collectively valued at Rs 11,500 crore and Rs 8,200 crore respectively. This comprehensive endeavor underscores the government's unwavering commitment to fostering holistic development and infrastructure augmentation across the length and breadth of the nation, ultimately paving the way for a more prosperous and connected India.
