A man impersonating a high-ranking Army officer was apprehended while attempting to enter the sensitive Eastern Command Headquarters at Fort William, Kolkata. Identified as Borada Sudheer from Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, he presented a fake identity card bearing the name of Major MS Chauhan from the 5th Gorkha Rifles (Frontier Force).
The incident occurred on March 15 when Sudheer arrived at the East Gate of Fort William. Upon being asked for proof of identity, he showed a counterfeit identity card on his mobile phone. However, his repeated references to the fake identity card aroused suspicion, prompting security personnel to alert authorities.
Subsequently, Sudheer was escorted to the Military Police Control Room and later handed over to the police. During interrogation, it was revealed that he had a history of forgery and cheating, having been previously detained in a juvenile home in Odisha under Section 420 of the IPC. Released in February this year, Sudheer had since engaged in fraudulent activities, including duping a hotel in Cuttack.
Sudheer's journey to Kolkata involved traveling without a ticket to the Howrah railway station, followed by a taxi ride to Kolkata Airport. From there, he called the JW Marriott Hotel and hired a BMW, posing as an Army officer affiliated with the President's Bodyguard. En route to Fort William, he made a stop at Jadavpur University to assist the driver with his daughter's enrollment under the defense quota.
Further investigation revealed Sudheer's involvement in fraudulent digital payments at luxury establishments. He utilized the BHIM app to make payments, subsequently altering confirmation messages for additional transactions. Despite claiming to be a 24-year-old B.Tech student, Sudheer's true intentions remain under scrutiny as authorities continue their inquiries into his fraudulent activities.
