Actor RK Somendro of Manipur would run as an independent once his nomination is denied

Popular Manipuri actor RK Somendro, widely known as Kaiku, has encountered a setback in his bid to contest the Inner Manipur Lok Sabha seat. Initially slated to contest on a Manipur People's Party (MPP) ticket, issues were discovered in his nomination papers during scrutiny, leading to the rejection of his candidacy under the MPP banner.

Despite this setback, Somendro remains steadfast in his commitment to serve Manipur and has decided to continue his electoral campaign as an independent candidate. Expressing his determination, Somendro stated, "I will not step back, I will fight the election for the better cause of Manipur."

While his nomination under the MPP was rejected due to irregularities found in the party's documents, Somendro maintains his allegiance to the Manipur People's Party, highlighting its significance as the oldest and only regional party deeply rooted in Manipur. He affirmed his intention to collaborate with the MPP despite running as an independent candidate.

Somendro's decision to contest as an independent candidate comes amidst a field of seven contenders vying for the Inner Manipur seat. Notably, the candidature of Ngasepam Nilakanta Singh, who filed under the Universal Family Party, has also been rejected following scrutiny.

Despite the challenges faced during the nomination process, Somendro remains determined to contribute to the betterment of Manipur, underscoring his commitment to the state's welfare and development.
