Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, PM Modi will preside over today's Council of Ministers meeting

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to preside over a session of the Union Council of Ministers on Sunday in the capital city of New Delhi, a day following the Bharatiya Janata Party's announcement of its inaugural roster of contenders for the imminent Lok Sabha polls.

Anticipated as the last rendezvous of the Council before the general elections projected to occur between April and May this year, the assembly is penciled in to take place at the Sushma Swaraj Bhavan situated in the Chanakyapuri locality of the city.

The agenda is speculated to encompass an evaluation of the central government's performance, in sync with the BJP's strategic emphasis on accentuating the achievements and developmental blueprints of the administration throughout its electioneering endeavors.

With the BJP unveiling its inaugural catalog of 195 Lok Sabha aspirants on Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, vying for a third tenure, is positioned to contest from Varanasi, while Union Home Minister Amit Shah stakes his claim from his incumbent seat in Gandhinagar, and Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh throws his hat into the electoral ring from Lucknow.

Among the notable inclusions in the initial roll call are 34 incumbent Union Ministers and two erstwhile Chief Ministers, juxtaposed with the exclusion of 33 sitting Members of Parliament across diverse states, encompassing several prominent figures.

Conspicuously absent from the lineup are Union Minister Meenakshi Lekhi representing Delhi and former Union Minister Harsh Vardhan.

Furthermore, the roster overlooks the candidature of Sadhvi Pragya Thakur from Bhopal.

Out of the 195 constituencies featured in the maiden enumeration, the party secured victory in 155 seats during the 2019 polls.

Prime Minister Modi has articulated an ambitious objective for the BJP to clinch no fewer than 370 seats independently in this Lok Sabha election, and upwards of 400 for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
