Amid a dispute over phone tapping, BRS MLA Kadiyam Srihari and her daughter joined the Congress

Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) MLA Kadiyam Srihari and his daughter Kavya Kadiyam, who was the party's Lok Sabha candidate from Warangal, have joined the ruling Congress party in Telangana amid the ongoing phone tapping controversy in the state.

The father-daughter duo officially joined the Congress in the presence of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and state in-charge Deepa Das Munshi, as announced by the Telangana unit of the Congress on social media.

Kadiyam Srihari, a prominent figure in the BRS, has been representing the Ghanpur Station Assembly constituency since 2023 and previously served as the Deputy Chief Minister of Telangana from January 2015 to December 2018 under the leadership of former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

The decision to join the Congress comes after Kavya Kadiyam withdrew from the upcoming Lok Sabha elections as the BRS candidate from Warangal. In her letter to BRS president Chandrasekhar Rao, she cited allegations of corruption and phone tapping against the party's previous regime, expressing concern over the impact of these allegations on the party's reputation.

This move follows a series of defections from the BRS in recent times, with several prominent members, including MLAs and MPs, switching allegiance to other parties such as the Congress and the BJP.

With the Lok Sabha elections in Telangana scheduled to take place in a single phase on May 13, these developments may have significant implications for the political landscape of the state.
