Amit Malviya pokes fun at Rahul Gandhi by saying "dar gaya" when the Congress first list omits Amethi

In a recent development about the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Congress party revealed its initial roster of candidates, notably omitting the highly anticipated Amethi constituency from its list. This decision prompted BJP's Amit Malviya to take a jab at the Congress, insinuating on a social media platform, X, whether there was apprehension behind Rahul Gandhi's absence from the Amethi ticket allocation. The absence of Amethi, a seat previously secured by Rahul Gandhi but lost to the BJP in 2019, raises questions about the Congress party's strategic electoral maneuvers.

Rahul Gandhi, a prominent Congress figure, has been slated to contest from the Wayanad constituency in Kerala as per the initial candidate list. However, speculation looms regarding his potential return to Amethi, his erstwhile stronghold. Rahul Gandhi's electoral track record in Amethi, where he emerged victorious thrice in succession from 2004, highlights its significance. Yet, the BJP's Smriti Irani, who clinched victory in the last elections, continues to hold ground in Amethi.

The exchange between Rahul Gandhi and Smriti Irani adds another layer of intrigue to the electoral landscape, with Irani openly challenging Gandhi to contest from Amethi. Despite occasional visits, Rahul Gandhi's engagement with Amethi has waned over the past five years, punctuated by his recent appearance during the Uttar Pradesh leg of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in February. Gandhi's intermittent presence underscores the shifting dynamics of his relationship with Amethi.

Further complicating matters, the Congress solidified a seat-sharing agreement with the Samajwadi Party, securing a portion of seats in Uttar Pradesh, including Raebareli and Amethi, historical bastions of the Nehru-Gandhi legacy. This alliance reflects the intricate calculus of electoral politics, underscoring the strategic maneuvers employed by parties to maximize their electoral prospects in a dynamic and competitive landscape.
