Army officer kidnapped from Thoubal, Manipur, home

According to reports from India Today NE, officials have confirmed that a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) of the Indian Army was forcefully taken from his residence situated in Manipur's Thoubal district on Friday.

The incident occurred around 9 am when a group of individuals forcibly entered the home of JCO Konsam Kheda Singh located at Charangpat Mamang Leikai. These unidentified assailants proceeded to abduct Kheda Singh, placing him into a vehicle before swiftly fleeing the scene.

Preliminary information suggests that the abductors of Kheda Singh had intentions to extort money, particularly as his family had previously received threats of a similar nature.

In response to this distressing situation, authorities have initiated a comprehensive search operation aimed at locating and rescuing JCO Kheda Singh. Additionally, all vehicles traversing National Highway 102 are undergoing thorough inspections as part of this effort.

It's noteworthy that the Army officer was on sanctioned leave from his duties when this unfortunate incident transpired.

This alarming development follows closely on the heels of another abduction incident in Manipur, wherein a Manipur Police officer was forcibly taken from his residence on February 27. Approximately 200 armed individuals stormed the residence of Additional Superintendent of Police, Moirangthem Amit Singh, in Imphal West district, perpetrating his abduction.

The abduction of Amit Singh was purportedly carried out by a group identified as the Meitei vigilante organization, Arambai Tenggol.

These abductions serve as grim reminders of the prevailing unrest in Manipur, a region that has been marred by ethnic tensions between the Meitei and Kuki communities since May 3 last year.
