Bansuri Swaraj succeeds Meenakshi Lekhi of the BJP in the New Delhi seat

Meenakshi Lekhi, the Union Minister, held a meeting on Monday with Bansuri Swaraj, the designated BJP candidate for the New Delhi constituency in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. During the meeting, Lekhi provided Bansuri Swaraj with a comprehensive overview of the developmental initiatives she had undertaken in the constituency over the past decade.

Despite representing the New Delhi seat for the past decade, Lekhi's name was notably absent from the BJP's initial list of candidates for the upcoming parliamentary elections. Taking over from Meenakshi Lekhi, Bansuri Swaraj, daughter of the late BJP stalwart Sushma Swaraj, is poised to embark on her electoral journey from this constituency, marking her debut in electoral politics.

Taking to social media platform X, Meenakshi Lekhi shared a snapshot of her encounter with Bansuri Swaraj, expressing her endorsement of the latter as the BJP's candidate for the New Delhi Lok Sabha seat in 2024. In her post, Lekhi underscored the transmission of the baton to Bansuri Swaraj, emphasizing the continuity of developmental endeavors aimed at serving the residents of New Delhi.

Expressing gratitude for the opportunity to represent the New Delhi constituency, Bansuri Swaraj extended her appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP chief JP Nadda, and the party's dedicated cadre for entrusting her with this responsibility.

Having recently ventured into active politics as the co-convener of the Delhi BJP's Legal Cell, Bansuri Swaraj swiftly ascended the party ranks, assuming the role of secretary within the state unit.

The BJP's initial list of candidates, comprising 195 names, witnessed a notable overhaul in Delhi, with four out of five sitting MPs being replaced.
