Before the Lok Sabha elections, Rajasthan lowers the price of gasoline and fuel while raising the DA

The Bhajan Lal Sharma-led BJP government in Rajasthan has made significant announcements ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, reducing the Value Added Tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel by 2 percent. This decision has resulted in a reduction in fuel prices in the state, with petrol becoming cheaper by Rs 1.40 and diesel by Rs 1.34.

Additionally, the government has announced a 4 percent hike in the Dearness Allowance (DA) for state government employees and pensioners. Previously, a 46 percent dearness allowance was provided to employees, which has now been increased to 50 percent.

These decisions were made during a state cabinet meeting held on Thursday evening. Chief Minister Sharma highlighted that these measures were aimed at benefiting the people of the state ahead of the festival of colors, Holi.

The reduced fuel prices came into effect from 6 am on Friday, providing immediate relief to the citizens. The increase in Dearness Allowance will benefit approximately 8 lakh employees and 4 lakh 40 thousand pensioners in the state.

Chief Minister Sharma emphasized the government's commitment to good governance and public welfare, stating that these decisions align with the path of public service. However, these measures will bring an additional burden of Rs 1500 crore on the state exchequer.
