Before the Lok Sabha elections, Trinamool politician Arjun Singh is expected to re-join the BJP

Senior Trinamool Congress leader and Member of Parliament, Arjun Singh, announced his resignation from the party on Thursday, revealing his intention to rejoin the BJP ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

Singh confirmed his departure from the Trinamool Congress and stated his plan to head to New Delhi to formally join the BJP, indicating that another prominent TMC figure would also join the saffron party alongside him.

In explaining his decision, the 61-year-old leader cited his commitment to preventing his constituency, Barrackpore, from facing a fate similar to Sandeshkali. Singh expressed concerns over alleged connections between TMC leaders and Sheikh Shajahan, particularly implicating Trinamool minister Partha Bhowmik in facilitating Shajahan's activities in Naihati.

Singh's exclusion from the Trinamool's candidate list for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls prompted speculation about his departure. However, he clarified that his decision was not solely driven by the denial of a ticket, affirming his readiness to support any BJP nominee in Barrackpore, including himself or his son.

Singh's discontent with the Trinamool became apparent after the party released its candidate list, with him openly expressing his dissatisfaction and feeling humiliated by the party's actions.

Notably, Singh has a history of switching allegiances between the Trinamool Congress and the BJP. He had previously resigned from the TMC five years ago to join the BJP just before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Despite his subsequent return to the Trinamool in 2022, Singh maintained his status as an MP.
