Bengali women are the safest, according to Mamata Banerjee, who meets them after the PM's charge

In anticipation of International Women's Day, Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, led a rally in Kolkata on Thursday, emphasizing the state's commitment to women's safety. She also engaged with women from Sandeshkhali, assuring them of continued peace in the area.

Asserting Bengal's status as the safest state for women, Banerjee's statement was a response to the recent criticism leveled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP against the Trinamool Congress regarding the unrest in Sandeshkhali.

Addressing the accusations surrounding the Sandeshkhali incident, Banerjee defended her administration's swift actions against any reported atrocities, even involving members of her own party. She criticized the BJP's tendency to utilize investigative agencies like the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for political gains.

Banerjee further questioned the BJP's focus on tarnishing Bengal's image and accused them of remaining silent on similar issues elsewhere, such as the parade of naked women in Manipur. She highlighted instances of sexual violence in other states and criticized PM Modi for not addressing them.

Challenging PM Modi's assertions, Banerjee asserted that Bengal stands out as a safe haven for women, emphasizing the courage of women to speak out against injustices. She criticized PM Modi's recent remarks on the Sandeshkhali incident, urging him to acknowledge the safety measures taken by her administration.

During her interaction with women from Sandeshkhali, they expressed gratitude for the improved situation following the arrest of Shahjahan Sheikh, a suspended Trinamool Congress leader implicated in the unrest.
