Bihar approves the plan to renovate Sita Temple in Sitamarhi

The Bihar Cabinet has approved a proposal for the acquisition of 50 acres of land for the redevelopment of the Punaura Dham Temple in Sitamarhi. This decision, initiated by the state's tourism department, aims to enhance the infrastructure and facilities at the site, also known as Maa Janaki Janmabhoomi Temple, believed to be the birthplace of the Hindu deity Sita.

The temple holds significant religious importance, attracting devotees and pilgrims from across the country. However, officials from the Bihar State Board of Religious Trust have raised concerns, stating that the tourism department's proposal encroaches on their jurisdiction.

This acquisition of additional land complements the earlier acquisition of 16.63 acres by the Bihar government for the redevelopment of the temple premises and its surrounding area.

Situated in Punaura village, the Punaura Dham Temple is closely associated with the legend of Sita's birth and is revered by millions of devotees. Adjacent to the temple lies Janaki Kund, a sacred lake.

Moreover, Sitamarhi's inclusion in the Ramayana circuit, a government initiative aimed at developing key sites mentioned in the Ramayana, underscores the area's significance in religious tourism and pilgrimage.
